Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – Command to be strict in matters and not rely solely on acts of obedience.
Hadith 348
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَشَجِّ ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ يُنَجِّيهِ عَمَلُهُ " ، فقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ : وَلا أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " وَلا أَنَا إِلا أَنْ يَتَغَمَّدَنِي اللَّهُ بِرَحْمَتِهِ وَلَكِنْ سَدِّدُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "None of you will be saved by his deeds." A person asked in your presence: "O Messenger of Allah! Not even you?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Not even me. Except that Allah Almighty has enveloped me in His mercy, so you should adopt moderation."
