Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah the Exalted says: Whoever shows enmity to My friend, he invites Me (to war), and among the things by which My servant seeks nearness to Me, the most beloved to Me are those which I have made obligatory upon him. And My servant continues to seek nearness to Me through voluntary acts until I begin to love him. And when I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he grasps, and his foot with which he walks. If My servant asks Me for something, I grant it to him, and if he seeks refuge with Me, I grant him refuge. And I do not hesitate in anything as much as I hesitate in taking the soul of the believer, for he dislikes death and I dislike to displease him.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration is only known through these two chains: Hisham Kana‘ani has narrated it from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), while ‘Abdulwahid bin Maimun has narrated it from ‘Urwah from Sayyidah ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and both these chains are not authentic. The authentic narration is the one which we have mentioned.
