Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – One must not rely on destiny alone but fulfill obligations and avoid prohibitions.
Hadith 336
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ بِبَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَنَعْمَلُ لأَمْرٍ قَدْ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ ، أَمْ لأَمْرٍ نَأْتَنِفُهُ ؟ قَالَ : " لأَمْرٍ قَدْ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ " ، قَالَ : فَفِيمَ الْعَمَلُ إِذًا ؟ فقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ عَامِلٍ مُيَسَّرٌ لِعَمَلِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Do we act regarding a matter that has already been decreed, or regarding a matter that is newly occurring?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a situation that has already been decreed." So Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Then why should one act?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For every doer, his specific action has been made easy."
