Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – It is permissible to show gratitude for Allah’s blessings by displaying obedience.
Hadith 319
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّارُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : وَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أَثَرَ الْوَجَعِ عَلَيْكَ بَيِّنٌ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي عَلَى مَا تَرَوْنَ ، قَرَأْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ السَّبْعَ الطُّوَلَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: (On one occasion) the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) faced some discomfort. The next morning, it was said to him: O Messenger of Allah! The signs of discomfort are evident upon you. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My condition is as you see, (in this state) I recited seven long surahs (in voluntary prayers) last night.
