Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – Severe warning against those who oppose the mentioned Sunnah.
Hadith 317
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمَذَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، يَقُولُ : جَاءَ ثَلاثَةُ رَهْطٍ إِلَى بُيُوتِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَسْأَلُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أُخْبِرُوا كَأَنَّهُمْ تَقَالُّوهَا ، فَقَالُوا : وَأَيْنَ نَحْنُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَدْ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ ؟ ! ، قَالَ أَحَدُهُمْ : أَمَّا أَنَا فَإِنِّي أُصَلِّي اللَّيْلَ أَبَدًا ، وَقَالَ الآخَرُ : أَنَا أَصُومُ الدَّهْرَ وَلا أُفْطِرُ ، وَقَالَ الآخَرُ : أَنَا أَعْتَزِلُ النِّسَاءَ وَلا أَتَزَوَّجُ أَبَدًا ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فقَالَ : " أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ قُلْتُمْ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ أَمَا وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَخْشَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ ، وَأَتْقَاكُمْ لَهُ ، لَكِنِّي أَصُومُ وَأُفْطِرُ ، وَأُصَلِّي وَأَرْقُدُ ، وَأَتَزَوَّجُ النِّسَاءَ ، فَمَنْ رَغِبَ عَنْ سُنَّتِي فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in order to ask about the worship of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When they were informed about it, they considered it little. They said: What connection do we have with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has had his past and future sins forgiven. So one of them said: I will always offer voluntary prayers throughout the night. The second said: I will always observe voluntary fasts and never break my fast. The third said: I will keep away from women and never marry. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and these things were told to him. He said: Did you say these things? By Allah! I am the one among you who fears Allah the most and has the most taqwa. But I observe voluntary fasts and also leave them; I offer voluntary prayers and also sleep; and I have also married women. So whoever turns away from my Sunnah has nothing to do with me.
