Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The one who eats and gives thanks is like the one who fasts and is patient.”
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The one who eats and gives thanks, who has been equated with the reward of the one who fasts and is patient, is that Muslim who eats something and then does not disobey his Lord. He strengthens himself and completes gratitude by committing good deeds with his limbs. The reason for this is: the fasting person joins him in terms of patience, because he is patient in refraining from forbidden things. Similarly, the one who gives thanks is joined with the patient one. So now it is necessary that this gratitude, which has been set against this patience, should be such that it is close to it or has a connection with it, and this is refraining from forbidden things, as we have mentioned earlier.
