Ibn Atiq Ansari narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “There is a type of jealousy that Allah likes, and a type that Allah dislikes. As for the type that Allah likes, it is the jealousy concerning Allah, and the jealousy that Allah dislikes is the one that is for anyone other than Allah. Among those who display arrogance, there are some whom Allah likes and some whom Allah dislikes. As for those who display arrogance and Allah likes them, it refers to the servant who distinguishes himself at the time of battle, and the person who distinguishes himself while giving charity. And as for the arrogant person whom Allah dislikes, it refers to the one who displays arrogance in worldly matters rather than religious matters.”
Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) says: The narrator named Ibn Atiq is Abu Sufyan bin Jabir bin Atiq bin Nu’man Ashhali. His father is a companion.
