Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Allah records a person among the truthful for persisting in truthfulness
Hadith 272
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ بِحَرَّانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، وَمَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا يَزَالُ الرَّجُلُ يَصْدُقُ وَيَتَحَرَّى الصِّدْقَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ صِدِّيقًا ، وَلا يَزَالُ يَكْذِبُ وَيَتَحَرَّى الْكَذِبَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَذَّابًا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A man keeps speaking the truth, and strives to speak the truth, until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful person. And a person keeps telling lies, and strives to tell lies, until he is recorded with Allah as a liar."
