Hadith 218
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْكَلاعِيُّ بِحِمْصَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيرَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَقُولُوا : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، فَمَنْ قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، فَقَدْ عَصَمَ مِنِّي نَفْسَهُ وَمَالَهُ إِلا بِحَقِّهِ ، وَحِسَابُهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ ، وَأَنْزَلَ الِلَّهِ فِي كِتَابِهِ ، فَذَكَرَ قَوْمًا اسْتَكْبَرُوا ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ سورة الصافات آية 35 ، وَقَالَ : إِذْ جَعَلَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْحَمِيَّةَ حَمِيَّةَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَعَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَلْزَمَهُمْ كَلِمَةَ التَّقْوَى سورة الفتح آية 26 ، وَهِيَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَمُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " ، اسْتَكْبَرَ عَنْهَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: There is no deity except Allah. Whoever says: There is no deity except Allah, will protect his life and his wealth from me, except for the right of Islam, and his reckoning is with Allah." Then Allah revealed a verse in His Book. Allah mentioned a people who showed arrogance. Allah said: "Indeed, these are the people who, when it is said to them: There is no deity except Allah, they show arrogance." Allah also said: "When those in whose hearts was disbelief harbored the arrogance of the time of ignorance, Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and made them adhere to the word of piety." (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says:) Here, the word of piety means to say: There is no deity except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. The polytheists showed arrogance regarding this at the occasion of Hudaybiyyah.
