Chapter: Obligation of Faith – Applying the name “faith” to one who fulfills a part of the branches of verbal declaration
Hadith 178
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لا يُؤْمِنُ الْعَبْدُ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَ بِأَرْبَعٍ : يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، وَيُؤْمِنُ بِالْبَعْثِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ ، وَيُؤْمِنُ بِالْقَدْرِ " .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A servant does not become a believer until he believes in four things. He bears witness that there is no deity except Allah, and indeed I am the Messenger of Allah, and he believes in being brought to life after death, and he believes in destiny."
