Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity except Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and they establish prayer and pay zakat. When they do this, they will have protected their lives and their wealth from me, except for the right of Islam, and their reckoning is with Allah the Exalted." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) In narrating this tradition, the narrator named Shu’bah is unique, and in this narration there is a clear statement that faith has components and branches, which differ according to the conditions of the people being addressed, because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned this in the narration: "Until they testify that there is no deity except Allah, and indeed I am the Messenger of Allah." So in this there is an indication that this is the branch which is obligatory upon all those addressed in all circumstances. Then he said, "and they establish prayer," so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that which is obligatory upon those addressed in some circumstances. Then he said, "and they pay zakat," so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that which is obligatory upon those addressed in some circumstances. So this indicates that all good deeds which resemble these three things, which you mentioned in this narration, are all part of faith.
