Hadith 151
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَوْضِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَرَّرُ بْنُ قَعْنَبٍ الْبَاهِلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا رِيَاحُ بْنُ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ السَّمَّانِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " نَادِ فِي النَّاسِ : مَنْ قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ " ، فَخَرَجَ فَلَقِيَهُ عُمَرُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ ، فَقَالَ : أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ قُلْتُ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكَذَا وَكَذَا ، قَالَ : ارْجِعْ ، فَأَبَيْتُ ، فَلَهَزَنِي لَهْزَةً فِي صَدْرِي أَلَمُهَا ، فَرَجَعْتُ وَلَمْ أَجِدْ بُدًّا ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، بَعَثْتَ هَذَا بِكَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ " ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ طَمِعُوا وَخَشُوا ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى الِلَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اقْعُدْ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me and instructed: "Announce among the people that whoever testifies that there is no deity except Allah will enter Paradise." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) set out, and on the way, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) met him and asked: Where are you going? I replied: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has sent me with this message. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go back! I did not accept what he said, so he struck my chest, and I felt its pain. I returned, for I had no other choice. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Did you send him with such and such a message? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Yes. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Upon hearing this good news, (people) will rely on the hope of Paradise. And they will fear (in the footnote it is clarified, here the word is incorrectly transmitted. The actual word is: they will become corrupt). So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said (to Sayyiduna Jabir): Sit down.
