Ali bin Utham narrates: I came to Sa’eer bin Khums to ask him about the hadith regarding waswasah (whispers), but he did not narrate that hadith to me. I returned weeping. Then I met him again, and he said: Come forward. Mughira, from Ibrahim, from Alqama, from our master Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated this statement: We asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a person who finds something (i.e., experiences waswasah or negative thoughts) such that if he were to fall from the sky and birds were to snatch him away, this would be more beloved to him than to speak about that (waswasah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This is clear faith.”
