It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): Once, he and Har bin Qais Fazari met regarding the companion of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) (i.e., the one whom Sayyiduna Musa went to meet). Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He was Sayyiduna Khidr (peace be upon him). Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by both of them. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) called him and said: O Abu Tufail! You have come to us. There has been a discussion between me and my companion about the person in the incident of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), regarding whom Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) prayed to find the way to meet him. Have you heard anything from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about this? He said: Once, Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) was sitting among a group of Bani Israel. During that time, a man came to him and asked: Do you know of anyone who has more knowledge than you? Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) replied: No. So Allah Almighty revealed to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) (that is not the case), rather Our servant Khidr (has more knowledge than you). So Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) prayed to meet him. Allah Almighty made the fish a sign for him and said: When you lose the fish, then return, you will meet him there. So Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) set out and traveled as much as Allah willed. He said to his companion: Bring our food to us. His companion said to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him): At the time when Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) asked for food, did you notice this? When we came to the shade of the rock, I forgot the fish. And it was Satan who made me forget to mention it. So Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) said to his companion: This is the place we were seeking. So both of them returned, following their footsteps, and they found Sayyiduna Khidr (peace be upon him). Then the incident occurred between them which Allah Almighty has mentioned in His Book.
