Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He learned of this statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "When Allah Almighty decides a matter in the heavens, the angels lower their wings in submission to His command, striking their wings as if a chain is struck upon a rock. When the fear is removed from their hearts, they ask: 'What has your Lord said?' They reply: 'He has spoken the truth, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.'"
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then a stealthy listener (a jinn) hears this statement, and sometimes, before he can convey it downwards, a shooting star overtakes him, and sometimes the shooting star does not reach him, so he passes it to the one below him.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) (or perhaps the narrator) said: They are thus positioned one above the other. The narrator named Sufyan demonstrated with his hand how they pass the information to each other, until it reaches the earth and is placed into the mouth of a disbeliever or a sorcerer.
He (the devil) mixes a hundred lies with it. Sometimes, the original statement is confirmed (or it turns out to be true), so it is said: 'Did he not say such-and-such on such-and-such a day? He spoke the truth.'
