Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man entered the mosque on Friday through the door facing the pulpit while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The man stood in front of you and said: O Messenger of Allah! The livestock are perishing and the roads are cut off. Pray to Allah, the Exalted, to send down rain upon us. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his hands and supplicated: “O Allah! Send down rain upon us. O Allah! Send down rain upon us.” Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: By Allah! At that time, we could not see any cloud or even a patch of cloud in the sky between us and the mountain of Sila’. There was no cloud over any house or neighborhood. Meanwhile, a cloud appeared from behind that (mountain) like a shield, and when it reached the middle of the sky, it spread and then it started to rain. By Allah, we did not see the sun for six days. On the next Friday, a man entered through that door while the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was delivering the sermon. He stood in front of you and said: O Messenger of Allah! The livestock are perishing and the roads are cut off. Pray to Allah, the Exalted, to withhold the rain from us. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised his hands and supplicated: “O Allah! Let it be around us and not upon us. O Allah! Let it be on the hilltops, open fields, and forests.” The narrator says: The clouds dispersed and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out walking in the sunlight. The narrator says: I asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Was it the same man as before? He replied: I do not know.
