Aamir Sha'bi narrates the statement of the preacher of Madinah Munawwarah, Ibn Abu Sa'ib: Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: You should deliver a sermon once a week; if this is not accepted, then do it twice, and if this too is not accepted, then do it three times. I should not find you in such a state that you come to the people while they are engaged in their own conversation, and then you interrupt their talk. It should be such that the people listen to you attentively, then you converse with them, and when supplicating, avoid using rhymed and artificial words, because I have seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions disliked this.
