Hadith 952

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْكَلاعِيِّ ، عَنْ أَوْسَطَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ ، وَقَالَ : قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ أَوَّلٍ فَخَنَقَتْهُ الْعَبْرَةُ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، سَلُوا اللَّهَ الْمُعَافَاةَ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يُعْطَ أَحَدٌ مِثْلَ الْيَقِينِ بَعْدَ الْمُعَافَاةِ ، وَلا أَشَدَّ مِنَ الرِّيبَةِ بَعْدَ الْكُفْرِ ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالصِّدْقِ فَإِنَّهُ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْبِرِّ وَهُمَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْكَذِبَ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْفُجُورِ وَهُمَا فِي النَّارِ " . أَرَادَ بِهِ مُرْتَكِبَهُمَا لا نَفْسَهُمَا .
Awsat bin Amir Bajali narrates: I came to Madinah after the passing of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and I found Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering a sermon to the people. He said: Last year, the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood among us. (He said this three times) but each time he would begin to weep in the middle. Then he said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O people! Ask Allah Almighty for well-being, for after certainty, no one is given anything better than well-being (here it should be: after well-being, nothing is given better than certainty), and after disbelief, nothing is more severe than doubt. And it is obligatory upon you to adhere to truthfulness, for it leads to righteousness, and both will be in Paradise. And it is obligatory upon you to avoid lying, for it leads to sin, and both will be in Hellfire." The narrator states: The Prophet (peace be upon him) meant the person who commits these acts, not their existence itself.
