Hadith 912

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ : قَالَ لِي كَعَبُ بْنُ عَجْرَةَ : أَلا أُهْدِي لَكَ هَدِيَّةً ؟ خَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ عَرَفْنَا كَيْفَ نُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْكَ ، فَكَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ : " قُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ . اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrates: Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Shall I not give you a gift? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us and we said: O Messenger of Allah! We have learned how to send peace upon you, so how should we send blessings upon you? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Say this: O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and upon the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
