Hadith 868

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو زُنَيْجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لِرَجُلٍ : " مَا تَقُولُ فِي الصَّلاةِ ؟ " ، فَقَالَ : أَتَشَهَّدُ ، ثُمَّ أَقُولُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ . أَنَا وَاللَّهِ مَا أُحْسِنُ دَنْدَنَتَكَ وَلا دَنْدَنَةَ مُعَاذٍ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " حَوْلَهَا نُدَنْدِنُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a man: "What do you recite in prayer? (i.e., what supplication do you make?)" He replied: "I recite the Tashahhud, then I make this supplication: 'O Allah! I ask You for Paradise and seek Your protection from the Fire.'" (The man said:) "By Allah! I do not make (comprehensive) supplications like you or like Mu'adh." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We also ask for things around the same (meaning)."
