Hadith 818

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ مَكْحُولٌ ، بِبَيْرُوتَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْبَعْلَبَكَيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ ثَوْبَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ يُخَامِرَ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ تَمُوتَ وَلِسَانُكَ رَطْبٌ مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ " .
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which deed is most beloved to Allah Almighty?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That you die while your tongue is moist with the remembrance of Allah Almighty."
