Hadith 812

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ذَكْوَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " قَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا : عَبْدِي عِنْدَ ظَنِّهِ بِي ، وَأَنَا مَعَهُ إِذَا دَعَانِي ، إِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي ، وَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي مَلأٍ ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي مَلأٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ وَأَطْيَبُ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ جَلَّ وَعَلا : " إِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي " يُرِيدُ بِهِ إِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي نَفْسِهِ بِالدَّوَامِ عَلَى الْمَعْرِفَةِ الَّتِي وَهَبْتُهَا لَهُ ، وَجَعَلْتُهُ أَهْلا لَهَا ، ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي نَفْسِي ، يُرِيدُ بِهِ فِي مَلَكُوتِي بِقَبُولِ تِلْكَ الْمَعْرِفَةِ مِنْهُ مَعَ غُفْرَانِ مَا تَقَدَّمَهُ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ . ثُمَّ قَالَ : " وَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي فِي مَلأٍ " يُرِيدُ بِهِ : وَإِنْ ذَكَرَنِي بِلِسَانِهِ ، يُرِيدُ بِهِ الإِقْرَارَ الَّذِي هُوَ عَلامَةُ تِلْكَ الْمَعْرِفَةِ فِي مَلأٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ لِيَعْلَمُوا إِسْلامَهُ ، ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي مَلأٍ خَيْرٍ مِنْهُ ، يُرِيدُ بِهِ ذَكَرْتُهُ فِي مَلأٍ خَيْرٍ مِنْهُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ ، بِمَا أَتَى مِنَ الإِحْسَانِ فِي الدُّنْيَا الَّذِي هُوَ الإِيمَانُ إِلَى أَنِ اسْتَوْجَبَ بِهِ التَّمَكُّنَ مِنَ الْجِنَانِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates this statement of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: “Allah Almighty says: I am as My servant thinks of Me. When he calls upon Me, I am with him. If he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My heart. If he remembers Me among people, I mention him in a group better and purer than them.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: Allah Almighty’s statement, “If he remembers Me within himself (i.e., in his heart or in solitude), I remember him within Myself,” means that if he regularly remembers Me in his heart due to the knowledge (ma‘rifah) I have gifted him and made him worthy of, then I remember him within Myself. This means: I accept this knowledge from him in My dominion, and along with him, I forgive his past sins. Then He said: “If he mentions Me among people,” this means: if he remembers Me with his tongue, it refers to the declaration that, in the presence of people, will be a sign of that knowledge so that they may know of his Islam. So I mention him in a group better than them. This means: I mention him in a group better than the one he is in, in which there will be Prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous who will be in Paradise. (The mention of this person will be) if he did good in the world, which is faith, so much so that because of this (faith) he will become deserving of residing in Paradise.
