Hadith 805

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ اللَّيْثِ ، عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ ابْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ : أَقْبَلْتُ أَنَا ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَسَارٍ مَوْلَى مَيْمُونَةَ حَتَّى دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَبِي الْجُهَيْمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الصِّمَّةِ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو الْجُهَيْمِ : " أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ نَحْوِ بِئْرِ الْجَمَلِ ، فَلَقِيَهُ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْجِدَارِ ، فَمَسَحَ بِوَجْهِهِ وَيَدَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ رَدَّ السَّلامَ " .
Umair, who is the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: I, Abdullah bin Yasar, and Sayyiduna Abu Juhaim were present. So Sayyiduna Abu Juhaim informed: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was coming from the direction of Bi’r Jamal. A man came before him. He greeted (gave salam), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to his greeting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the wall, wiped his face and both arms (i.e., performed tayammum), then he replied to the greeting.
