أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحِيرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : أَخَذَ الْقَوْمُ فِي عَقَبَةٍ أَوْ ثَنِيَّةٍ ، فَكُلَّمَا عَلاهَا رَجُلٌ ، قَالَ : لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ يَعْرِضُهَا فِي الْجَبَلِ ، فَقَالَ " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، إِنَّكُمْ لا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلا غَائِبًا " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " يَا أَبَا مُوسَى ، أَوْ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ أَلا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَنْزٍ مِنْ كُنُوزِ الْجَنَّةِ ؟ " قَالَ : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوَّةَ إِلا بِاللَّهِ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّكُمْ لا تَدْعُونَ أَصَمَّ وَلا غَائِبًا " ، لَفْظَةُ إِعْلامٍ عَنْ هَذَا الشَّيْءِ ، مُرَادُهَا الزَّجْرُ عَنْ رَفْعِ الصَّوْتِ بِالدُّعَاءِ .
Sayyiduna Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Whenever the people (i.e., the Companions) would ascend a hill, when a man would reach the top, «لا اله الا الله» and «الله اكبر» he would say. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding his mule at that time. When he reached the mountain with them, he said: O people! You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent (deity). Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Abu Musa! (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) O Abdullah bin Qais! Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Paradise? He replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (It is this phrase) «لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله».
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), "You are not calling upon one who is deaf or absent," is literally an information, but what is meant by it is the prohibition of raising the voice while supplicating.
