Hadith 757

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ صَفْوَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : حَفِظْتُ الْقُرْآنَ فَقَرَأْتُ بِهِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اقْرَأْهُ فِي شَهْرٍ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، دَعْنِي أَسْتَمْتِعْ مِنْ قُوَّتِي وَشَبَابِي ، قَالَ : " اقْرَأْهُ فِي عَشْرٍ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، دَعْنِي أَسْتَمْتِعْ مِنْ قُوَّتِي وَشَبَابِي ، قَالَ : " اقْرَأْهُ فِي سَبْعٍ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، دَعْنِي أَسْتَمْتِعْ مِنْ قُوَّتِي وَشَبَابِي ، قَالَ : فَأَبَى .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I memorized the Qur'an and recited it in one night, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: Recite it in a month. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to benefit from my strength and my youth. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite it in ten days. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to benefit from my strength and my youth. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite it in seven days. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to benefit from my strength and my youth. The narrator states: But the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not accept this from me.
