أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ غُلامُ طَالُوتَ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْقَيْسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَظَرْتُ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ ، فَإِذَا أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِهَا الْمَسَاكِينُ ، وَنَظَرْتُ فِي النَّارِ ، فَإِذَا أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِهَا النِّسَاءُ ، وَإِذَا أَهْلُ الْجَدِّ مَحْبُوسُونَ ، وَإِذَا الْكُفَّارُ قَدْ أُمِرَ بِهِمْ إِلَى النَّارِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : اطِّلاعُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ مَعًا كَانَ بِجِسْمِهِ ، وَنَظَرِهِ الْعَيَانِ تَفَضُّلا مِنَ اللَّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلا عَلَيْهِ ، وَفَرْقًا فَرَقَ بِهِ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ سَائِرِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ ، فَأَمَّا الأَوْصَافُ الَّتِي وَصَفَ أَنَّهُ رَأَى أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ بِهَا ، وَأَهْلَ النَّارِ بِهَا ، فَهِيَ أَوْصَافٌ صُوِّرَتْ لَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِيَعْلَمَ بِهَا مَقَاصِدَ نِهَايَةِ أَسْبَابِ أُمَّتِهِ فِي الدَّارَيْنِ جَمِيعًا ، لِيُرَغِّبَ أُمَّتَهُ بِأَخْبَارِ تِلْكَ الأَوْصَافِ لأَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ لِيَرْغَبُوا ، وَيُرَهِّبَهُمْ بِأَوْصَافِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ لِيَرْتَدِعُوا عَنْ سُلُوكِ الْخِصَالِ الَّتِي تُؤَدِّيهِمْ إِلَيْهَا .
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I looked towards Paradise and saw that the majority of its inhabitants were the poor. I looked towards Hell and saw that the majority of its inhabitants were women, and the prosperous people were held back, and the disbelievers were ordered to be taken towards Hell." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw both Paradise and Hell with his blessed body and with his eyes; this was a favor from Allah Almighty upon him so that, through this, a distinction would be made between him and the other prophets. As for the attributes which you described, that you saw the inhabitants of Paradise characterized with those attributes and the inhabitants of Hell characterized with those attributes, these are the attributes whose forms were presented before you so that, through them, you may know the objectives of the ends of means for your Ummah in both worlds, so that you may encourage your Ummah through the information of these attributes so that they may seek them, and warn them through the attributes of Hell so that they may avoid adopting those characteristics which can lead to Hell.
