أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، وَحُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ فِي نَخْلٍ لَهُ ، فَأَتَى عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَلامٍ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي سَائِلُكَ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ لا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلا نَبِيٌّ ، فَإِنْ أَنْتَ أَخْبَرْتَنِي بِهَا ، آمَنْتُ بِكَ ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الشَّبَهِ ، وَعَنْ أَوَّلِ شَيْءٍ يَحْشُرُ النَّاسَ ، وَعَنْ أَوَّلِ شَيْءٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِنَّ جِبْرِيلُ آنِفًا " ، قَالَ : ذَاكَ عَدُوُّ الْيَهُودِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَا الشَّبَهُ إِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ ذَهَبَ بِالشَّبَهِ ، وَإِذَا سَبَقَ مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ مَاءَ الرَّجُلِ ذَهَبَ بِالشَّبَهِ ، وَأَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ يَحْشُرُ النَّاسَ نَارٌ تَجِيءُ مِنْ قِبَلِ الْمَشْرِقِ ، فَتَحْشُرُ النَّاسَ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ ، وَأَوَّلُ شَيْءٍ يَأْكُلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ رَأْسُ ثَوْرٍ وَكَبِدُ حُوتٍ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ قَوْمٌ بُهْتٌ ، وَإِنَّهُمْ إِنْ سَمِعُوا بِإِيمَانِي بِكَ بَهَتُونِي ، وَوَقَعُوا فِيَّ ، فَخَبْأَنِي وَأَبْعَثْ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَبَعَثَ فَجَاؤُوا ، فَقَالَ : " مَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلامٍ ؟ " ، قَالُوا : سَيِّدُنَا وَابْنُ سَيِّدِنَا ، وَعَالِمُنَا وَابْنُ عَالِمِنَا ، وَخَيْرُنَا وَابْنُ خَيْرِنَا ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَسْلَمَ أَتُسْلِمُونَ ؟ " ، فَقَالُوا : أَعَاذَهُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ، مَا كَانَ لِيَفْعَلَ ، فَقَالَ : " اخْرُجْ يَا ابْنَ سَلامٍ " ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالُوا : بَلْ هُوَ شَرُّنَا وَابْنُ شَرِّنَا ، وَجَاهِلُنَا وَابْنُ جَاهِلِنَا ، قَالَ : أَلَمْ أُخْبِرْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ بُهْتٌ ! .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) was in his date orchards at that time. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I want to ask you about some things which only a Prophet can know. If you tell me about them, I will believe in you. He asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about the resemblance (of a child to either its mother or father), and about the thing that will gather people together, and about what the people of Paradise will eat first. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Just now Jibreel has informed me about them. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He (Jibreel) is disliked by the Jews. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As for resemblance, when the man’s fluid prevails over the woman’s fluid, the child resembles the father, and if the woman’s fluid prevails over the man’s fluid, the child resembles the mother. The first thing that will gather people together is a fire that will come from the east and will gather them and drive them towards the west. The first thing the people of Paradise will eat will be the caudate lobe of the liver of a fish and the head of a bull. Then he said: O Messenger of Allah! The Jews are slanderous people. If they hear that I have believed in you, they will slander me and speak against me, so I wish to call them. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) sent for them and the Jews came. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is the status of Abdullah bin Salam among you? They said: He is our chief and the son of our chief, our scholar and the son of our scholar, our best man and the son of our best man. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he becomes Muslim, will you also become Muslim? They said: May Allah protect him from saying such a thing; he could never do that. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ibn Salam, come out. He came out before them and said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. The Jews said: Rather, he is our worst man and the son of our worst man, our most ignorant man and the son of our most ignorant man. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Did I not tell you that they are slanderous people?
