أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ بِبَيْرُوتَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الدَّارِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ يَعْمَرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلامٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلامٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أَسْمَاءَ الرَّحَبِيُّ ، أَنَّ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ قَائِمًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذْ جَاءَ حَبْرٌ مِنْ أَحْبَارِ الْيَهُودِ ، فَقَالَ : سَلامٌ عَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، قَالَ : فَدَفَعْتُهُ دَفْعَةً كَادَ يُصْرَعُ مِنْهَا ، فَقَالَ : لِمَ تَدْفَعُنِي ؟ فَقُلْتُ : أَلا تَقُولُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ : إِنَّمَا أَدْعُوهُ بِاسْمِهِ الَّذِي سَمَّاهُ بِهِ أَهْلُهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ اسْمِي مُحَمَّدٌ الَّذِي سَمَّانِي بِهِ أَهْلِي " ، فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ : جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ : " يَنْفَعُكَ شَيْءٌ إِنْ أَخْبَرْتُكَ ؟ " قَالَ : أَسْمَعُ مَا تُحَدِّثُ ، فَنَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بِعُودٍ مَعَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " سَلْ " ، فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ : أَيْنَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ تُبَدَّلُ الأَرْضُ غَيْرَ الأَرْضِ وَالسَّمَاوَاتُ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ : " هُمْ فِي الظُّلْمَةِ دُونَ الْجِسْرِ " ، قَالَ : فَمَنْ أَوَّلُ النَّاسِ إِجَازَةً ؟ فَقَالَ : " فُقَرَاءُ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ " ، فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ : فَمَا تُحْفَتُهُمْ حِينَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ ؟ قَالَ : " زَائِدَةُ كَبِدِ النُّونِ " ، قَالَ : مَا غَدَاؤُهُمْ عَلَى إِثْرِهَا ؟ قَالَ : " يُنْحَرُ لَهُمْ ثَوْرُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا " ، قَالَ : فَمَا شَرَابُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ ؟ قَالَ : " مِنْ عَيْنٍ فِيهَا تُسَمَّى سَلْسَبِيلا " ، قَالَ : صَدَقْتَ ، قَالَ : وَجِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ لا يَعْلَمُهُ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الأَرْضِ إِلا نَبِيٌّ ، قَالَ : " يَنْفَعُكَ إِنْ حَدَّثْتُكَ ؟ " ، فَقَالَ : أَسْمَعُ بِأُذُنِي ، جِئْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الْوَلَدِ ، فَقَالَ : " مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ أَبْيَضُ ، وَمَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ أَصْفَرُ ، فَإِذَا اجْتَمَعَا فَعَلا مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَنِيَّ الْمَرْأَةِ أَذْكَرَا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ، وَإِذَا عَلا مَنِيُّ الْمَرْأَةِ مَنِيَّ الرَّجُلِ آنَثَا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ " ، فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ : لَقَدْ صَدَقْتَ ، وَإِنَّكَ لِنَبِيٌّ ، وَانْصَرَفَ ، فَذَهَبَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَقَدْ سَأَلَنِي هَذَا عَنِ الَّذِي سَأَلَنِي وَمَالِي عِلْمٌ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْهُ حَتَّى أَتَانِيَ اللَّهُ بِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once I was standing with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). During that time, a Jewish scholar came and said: O Muhammad! Peace be upon you. I pushed him, and he almost fell. He said to me: Why did you push me? I said: Could you not say, "O Messenger of Allah!" The Jew said: I have called him by his name, the name his family gave him. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My name is Muhammad. This is the name my family gave me. The Jew said: I have come to ask you a question. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I inform you about something, will it benefit you? He said: I am listening attentively to what you are saying. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a stick with which he was scratching the ground. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ask your question. The Jew asked: On the day when the earth will be changed to another earth and the heavens will be changed, where will the people be at that time? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The people will be in darkness, just before the Bridge of Sirat. He asked: Who will be the first to cross it? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The poor emigrants. The Jew asked: When they enter Paradise, what will their food be? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The extra part of the fish’s liver. He asked: What will their food be after that? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For those people, a bull from Paradise will be slaughtered, which will have been grazing around the gardens of Paradise. The Jew asked: What will be their drink? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It will come from a spring called Salsabeel. He said: You have spoken the truth. He said: I came to ask you about things that no one on the face of the earth knows except a Prophet. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I tell you something, will it benefit you? He said: I am listening with my ears; I wanted to ask you about the child. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The man’s semen is white and the woman’s semen is yellow. When they mix, and the man’s semen prevails over the woman’s, then by Allah’s command, a boy is born. When the woman’s semen prevails over the man’s, then by Allah’s command, a girl is born. The Jew said: You have spoken the truth. You are truly a Prophet. Then he left. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Just now, regarding the things he asked me, I did not have knowledge of them until Allah, the Exalted, gave me knowledge of them.
