أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : لَقِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جِبْرِيلَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي بُعِثْتُ إِلَى أُمَّةٍ أُمَيَّةٍ ، مِنْهُمُ الْغُلامُ ، وَالْجَارِيَةُ ، وَالْعَجُوزُ ، وَالشَّيْخُ الْفَانِي " ، قَالَ : مُرْهُمْ فَلْيَقْرَؤُوا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I have been sent to an unlettered nation among whom are boys and girls, old women and old men." So Jibreel said: "Guide them that they may recite according to any one of the seven modes."
