Hadith 7357

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنِ الأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَرْبَعَةٌ يَحْتَجُّونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ : رَجُلٌ أَصَمُّ ، وَرَجُلٌ أَحْمَقُ ، وَرَجُلٌ هَرِمٌ ، وَرَجُلٌ مَاتَ فِي الْفَتْرَةِ ، فَأَمَّا الأَصَمُّ ، فَيَقُولُ : يَا رَبِّ ، لَقَدْ جَاءَ الإِسْلامُ ، وَمَا أَسْمَعُ شَيْئًا ، وَأَمَّا الأَحْمَقُ ، فَيَقُولُ : رَبِّ ، قَدْ جَاءَ الإِسْلامُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ يَحْذِفُونَنِي بِالْبَعَرِ ، وَأَمَّا الْهَرِمُ ، فَيَقُولُ : رَبِّ ، لَقَدْ جَاءَ الإِسْلامُ وَمَا أَعْقِلُ ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي مَاتَ فِي الْفَتْرَةِ ، فَيَقُولُ : رَبِّ ، مَا أَتَانِي لَكَ رَسُولٌ ، فَيَأْخُذُ مَوَاثِيقَهُمْ لَيُطِيعُنَّهُ ، فَيُرْسِلُ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولا أَنِ ادْخُلُوا النَّارَ ، قَالَ : فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ دَخَلُوهَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ بَرْدًا وَسَلامًا " .
Sayyiduna Aswad bin Sari’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Four types of people will present their argument on the Day of Resurrection: the foolish person, the insane person, and the person who died during the period of interval (between prophets). As for the first person, he will say: O my Lord! Islam came but I did not hear anything about it. The foolish person will say: O my Lord! Islam came and at that time children would pelt me with dung (meaning my mental state was not sound). As for the insane person, he will say: When Islam came, I had no understanding of anything. As for the person who died during the period of interval, he will say: O my Lord! No messenger of Yours came to me. Then the Lord will take a covenant from these people that they will certainly obey Him. Then the Lord will send a messenger to them (saying): Enter the Hellfire. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if they enter it, it will be cool and safe for them.
