Hadith 7288

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بِطَرَسُوسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْبَلْخِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " فِينَا نَزَلَتْ : إِذْ هَمَّتْ طَائِفَتَانِ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ تَفْشَلا وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّهُمَا ، بَنُو سَلِمَةَ ، وَبَنُو حَارِثَةَ ، قَالَ عَمْرٌو : قَالَ جَابِرٌ : وَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّهَا لَمْ تَنْزِلْ لِقَوْلِ اللَّهِ : وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّهُمَا " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: This verse was revealed about us: "When two groups among you were about to lose heart, although Allah was their protector."
(The narrator says) By this, it is meant Banu Salamah and Banu Harithah. The narrator named Amr says: Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) stated that I do not like that this verse had not been revealed, because Allah Almighty also said in it: "Allah was their protector."
