Mahmood bin Labeed narrates from Ibn Shafee’, who was a physician. He says: Sayyiduna Usaid bin Hudair called me. I treated sciatica, and then he narrated two hadiths to me. He told me that once people from two households of my tribe came to me. One household belonged to Banu Zufar and the other to Banu Mu’awiyah. They said: Please speak to the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this matter, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) may give us something from the distribution (the narrator is doubtful, perhaps these are the words:) that he may grant us something. I spoke to the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this, and he said: Alright. I will give each of these households one share. If Allah grants us victories again, we will give them gifts. Upon this, I said: May Allah reward you with goodness, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: May Allah also reward you people with goodness, because I know about you people that you refrain from asking and act with patience.
Sayyiduna Usaid bin Hudair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: After me, you will see preferential treatment.
When the era of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came, he distributed some garments among the people. He sent one of those garments to me as well. I found it small, so I gave it to my father. One day I was praying. A young man from the Quraysh passed by me, wearing a similar garment, and he was dragging it on the ground (meaning he had more cloth). Then I remembered the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): Soon after me, you will see preferential treatment. So I said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. Then a person went to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him about this. He came while I was praying. He said: O Usaid! When I completed the prayer, he asked: What did you say? I told him about it, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: That was a garment which I sent to so-and-so, who participated in the Battle of Uhud, also participated in the Battle of Badr, and also participated in the Pledge of Aqabah. Then that young man went to that person and bought that garment from him and wore it. Did you think that this would happen in my time (i.e., that preferential treatment would be shown to the Ansar in my time)? So I said: By Allah, O Commander of the Faithful, I did not think that this would happen in your time.
