Ibn Daylami narrates: I went to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: "There is some confusion in my mind regarding Qadar (Divine Decree), so please narrate to me a hadith so that this confusion in my mind may be removed." Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If Allah were to punish all the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, He would not be unjust to them while punishing them, and if He were to have mercy on all of them, then His mercy would be better for them than their deeds. Even if you were to spend in the way of Allah an amount equal to Mount Uhud, Allah would not accept it from you until you believe in Qadar, and until you know that whatever situation has befallen you, it was bound to befall you, and whatever situation has not befallen you, it was never meant to befall you. If you die on any other belief than this, you will enter Hell."
The narrator says: Then I went to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also narrated similar words. Then I went to Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he also said something similar. Then I went to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), and he narrated to me a hadith similar to this from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
