Hadith 7225

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ ، أَنَّ سُحَيْمًا حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ رُوَيْفِعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قُرِّبَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَمْرٌ وَرُطَبٌ ، فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهُ حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ إِلا نَوَاةٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذَا ؟ " ، قَالُوا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : " تَذْهَبُونَ الْخَيِّرَ فَالْخَيِّرَ ، حَتَّى لا يَبْقَى مِنْكُمْ إِلا مِثْلُ هَذَا " .
Sayyiduna Ruwayfi’ bin Thabit Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Fresh and dry dates were presented to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The people ate them until only one pit remained. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know what this is? The people replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The good people will depart one by one, until only those like this (useless ones) will remain among you.
