أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمِ ، خَرَجَتْ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَهَا خِنْجَرٌ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ، مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالَتِ : اتَّخَذْتُهُ وَاللَّهِ إِنْ دَنَا مِنِّي رَجُلٌ بَعَجْتُ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ : أَلا تَسْمَعُ مَا تَقُولُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ، تَقُولُ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، اقْتُلْ مَنْ بَعْدَنَا مِنَ الطُّلَقَاءِ انْهَزَمُوا بِكَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَمُّ سُلَيْمٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ كَفَى وَأَحْسَنَ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and she had a dagger with her. Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked her: O Umm Sulaym, what is this for? She said: I have kept it for this reason—by Allah, if any person comes near me, I will stab it into his belly. So Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (O Messenger of Allah!) Did you hear what Umm Sulaym is saying? She has said such and such. Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah! Have those people killed who became Muslim later and then deserted you and turned back. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: O Umm Sulaym! Allah has sufficed and brought about a good (outcome).
