Hadith 7184

أخبرنا أخبرنا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَلامٍ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ ، قَرَأَ سُورَةَ بَرَاءَةً ، فَأَتَى عَلَى هَذِهِ الآيَةِ : انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالا ، فَقَالَ : " أَلا أَرَى رَبِّي يَسْتَنفِرُنِي شَابًّا وَشَيْخًا ، جَهِّزُونِي " ، فَقَالَ لَهُ بَنُوهُ : قَدْ غَزَوْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى قُبِضَ ، وَغَزَوْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَتَّى مَاتَ وَغَزَوْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ ، فَنَحْنُ نَغْزُو عَنْكَ ، فَقَالَ : " جَهِّزُونِي " ، فَجَهَّزُوهُ وَرَكِبَ الْبَحْرَ ، فَمَاتَ ، فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُ جَزِيرَةً يَدْفِنُونَهُ فِيهَا إِلا بَعْدَ سَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ فَلَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited Surah At-Tawbah, and when he reached this verse: "Go forth (for jihad) whether you are light or heavy," Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do I not see that my Lord has commanded me to go forth, whether I am young or old? Prepare my equipment for me. His sons said to him: You participated in battles with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, then you took part in battles with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) until he too passed away, then you participated in battle with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Now we will go to participate in battle in your place. But Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Prepare my equipment for me. They prepared his equipment, and he set out on a sea journey. During this journey, he passed away. His companions could not find any island to bury him. After seven days of his passing, they found an island (where they could bury him), but during this time, his (body) had not changed at all (i.e., the body had not decayed).
