Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I participated in a battle with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). My camel was walking slowly and it had become tired. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me and said: O Jabir! I replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: What is the matter with you? I replied: My camel is walking slowly and it has become tired, so I am falling behind. Then I got down from the camel. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) struck it with his stick and said: Now mount it. I mounted it, and I saw that I was restraining the camel from overtaking the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Have you married? I replied: Yes. He said: To a virgin or a previously married woman? I replied: To a previously married woman. He said: Why did you not marry a virgin, so that you could play with her and she could play with you? I replied: I have some sisters, so I wanted to marry a woman who would look after them, comb their hair, and take care of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You are about to return (to your home), so act wisely. Then he asked: Will you sell your camel? I replied: Yes, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) bought it from me for one uqiyah. Then he went to the mosque and I found him at the door of the mosque. He asked: Have you come now? I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Leave your camel and go into the mosque and pray two rak‘ahs. I entered the mosque and performed the prayer. Then he instructed Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) to weigh out one uqiyah and give it to me. He weighed it and gave it to me, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Make the scale heavy. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I set off from there and turned away, then he said: Call Jabir to me. I thought now the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would return the camel to me, and this was extremely disliked by me. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Take your camel and its price is also yours.
