Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away in my house, on the day that was specifically my turn, while he was leaning against my chest. (Shortly before his passing) Abdur Rahman bin Abu Bakr came in, and he had a wet miswak with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards it, so I realized that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to use it. I took it, cut it, chewed it, and cleaned it, then I offered it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He used the miswak thoroughly; I had never seen him use the miswak in that manner before. Then, as he began to lean towards me, it fell from his hand. I began to recite the same supplication that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite when he was ill, but during this illness, he had not recited that supplication. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his gaze towards the sky and said: (I) choose the Highest Companion. Thus, his soul departed. All praise is due to Allah, who united my saliva and the saliva of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the last day of his worldly life.
