أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سَلَمَةَ ، يَقُولُ : رَأَيْتُ عَمَّارَ بْنَ يَاسِرٍ يَوْمَ صِفِّينَ شَيْخٌ آدَمَ طُوَالٌ ، أَخَذَ الْحَرْبَةَ بِيَدِهِ ، وَيَدُهُ تَرْعُدُ ، فَقَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَقَدْ قَاتَلْتُ بِهَذِهِ الرَّايَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، وَهَذِهِ الرَّابِعَةُ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَوْ ضَرَبُونَا حَتَّى يَبْلُغُوا بِنَا سَعْفَاتِ هَجَرَ ، عَرَفْنَا أَنَّ مُصْلِحِينَا عَلَى الْحَقِّ ، وَأَنَّهُمْ عَلَى الْبَاطِلِ " .
Abdullah bin Salamah narrates: On the day of the Battle of Siffin, I saw Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him). He was a wheat-colored, tall, elderly man. He was holding a spear in his hand, and his hand was trembling. He said: By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, I have participated in jihad three times with this flag along with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and this is the fourth time. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if those people keep killing us until they take us to the date palms of Hajar, we will still believe that our righteous ones are upon the truth and those people are upon falsehood.
