Hadith 7063

أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : قُلْنَا لِحُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ : أَنْبِئْنَا بِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبِ الْهَدْيِ وَالسَّمْتِ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَأْخُذُ عَنْهُ ؟ فَقَالَ : " مَا أَعْرِفُ أَقْرَبَ سَمْتًا وَهَدْيًا وَدَلا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ حَتَّى يُوَارِيهِ جِدَارُ بَيْتِهِ ، وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِِلَى اللَّهِ وَسِيلَةً " .
Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates: We said to Sayyiduna Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him): Tell us about a person who is closest to the guidance and ways of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), so that we may acquire those things from him. He replied: I do not know anyone who is closer to the ways, guidance, and direction of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) than Ibn Umm Abd, until the wall of his house conceals him (i.e., in matters outside the house, he most closely resembles the Prophet). Among the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the trustworthy ones know that Ibn Umm Abd is the closest in terms of being a means of nearness to Allah Almighty.
