أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، وَقَدْ شَقَّ بَصَرُهُ فَأَغْمَضَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " إِِنَّ الرُّوحَ إِِذَا قُبِضَ ، تَبِعَهُ الْبَصَرُ " ، فَصَاحَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " لا تَدْعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِِلا بِخَيْرٍ ، فَإِِنَّ الْمَلائِكَةَ تُؤَمِّنُ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لأَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمُقَرَّبِينَ ، وَاخْلُفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ ، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُ وَلَنَا يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ ، اللَّهُمَّ افْسَحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ ، وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ " .
Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) when his eyes were open (i.e., he had passed away). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) closed his eyes and said: "When the soul is taken, the sight follows it." Some people from his family began to wail loudly, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray only for good for yourselves, for the angels say 'Ameen' to what you say." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among those who are rightly guided, and make his successor among those who remain. Forgive us and him, O Lord of all the worlds! O Allah, make his grave spacious for him and illuminate it for him."
