Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met me and said to me: O Jabir, what is the reason that I see you worried? I replied: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), my father has been martyred; he has left behind children and debt. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Shall I not give you glad tidings about what Allah met your father with? I replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Allah spoke to everyone from behind a veil, but when He brought your father to life, He spoke to him directly. He said: O My servant, wish, and I will grant you. So he said: (O my Lord) bring me back to life so that I may be martyred in Your path a second time. Allah said: I have decreed that people will not return (to the world). (The narrator says:) Regarding this, the following verse was revealed: "And do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive and are provided sustenance by their Lord."
