Hadith 6989

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُجَيْرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ إِِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ ، قَالَ : " وَاللَّهِ إِِنِّي لأَوَّلُ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ رَمَى بِسَهْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَإِِنْ كُنَّا لَنَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ نَأْكُلُهُ إِِلا وَرَقُ الْحُبْلَةِ وَهَذَا السَّمُرُ ، حَتَّى إِِنْ كَانَ أَحَدُنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةُ مَا لَهُ خِلْطٌ ، ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَتْ بَنُو أَسَدٍ تُعَزِّرُنِي عَلَى الدِّينِ ، لَقَدْ خِبْتُ إِِذًا وَضَلَّ عَمَلِي " .
Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: By Allah! I am the first person among the Arabs who shot an arrow in the path of Allah (during battle). We used to participate in expeditions with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and we had nothing to eat except the leaves of a certain type of tree, until one of us would defecate like the droppings of a goat, with nothing mixed in it. Now, if the Banu Asad try to reproach me regarding religion, then I have been disgraced and my deeds have been wasted.
