أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو شَيْبَةَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ بِالْفُسْطَاطِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى الأَسْلَمِيُّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَعَدَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ عَلِمْتَ مُنَاصَحَتِي وَقِدَمِي فِي الإِِسْلامِ وَإِِنِّي وَإِِنِّي ، قَالَ : وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ : تُزَوِّجُنِي فَاطِمَةَ ، قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ ، فَرَجَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِِلَى عُمَرَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : قَدْ هَلَكْتُ وَأُهْلِكْتُ ، قَالَ : وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ : خَطَبْتُ فَاطِمَةَ إِِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنِّي ، قَالَ : مَكَانَكَ حَتَّى آتِيَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَطْلُبُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي طَلَبْتَ ، فَأَتَى عُمَرُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَعَدَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ عَلِمْتَ مُنَاصَحَتِي وَقِدَمِي فِي الإِِسْلامِ ، وَإِِنِّي وَإِِنِّي ، قَالَ : وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ : تُزَوِّجُنِي فَاطِمَةَ ، فَسَكَتَ عَنْهُ ، فَرَجَعَ إِِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : إِِنَّهُ يَنْتَظِرُ أَمْرَ اللَّهِ فِيهَا ، قُمْ بِنَا إِِلَى عَلِيٍّ حَتَّى نَأْمُرَهُ يَطْلُبُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي طَلَبْنَا ، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ : فَأَتَيَانِي وَأَنَا أُعَالِجُ فَسِيلا لِي ، فَقَالا : إِِنَّا جِئْنَاكَ مِنْ عِنْدِ ابْنِ عَمِّكِ بِخِطْبَةٍ ، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ : فَنَبَّهَانِي لأَمْرٍ ، فَقُمْتُ أَجُرُّ رِدَائِي حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَعَدْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ " قَدْ عَلِمْتَ قِدَمِي فِي الإِِسْلامِ وَمُنَاصَحَتِي ، وَإِِنِّي وَإِِنِّي ، قَالَ : وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قُلْتُ : تُزَوِّجُنِي فَاطِمَةَ ، قَالَ : وَعِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ ؟ قُلْتُ : فَرَسِي وَبَدَنِي ، قَالَ : أَمَّا فَرَسُكَ فَلا بُدَّ لَكَ مِنْهُ ، وَأَمَّا بَدَنُكَ فَبِعْهَا ، قَالَ : فَبِعْتُهَا بِأَرْبَعِ مِائَةٍ وَثَمَانِينَ ، فَجِئْتُ بِهَا حَتَّى وَضَعْتُهَا فِي حِجْرِهِ ، فَقَبَضَ مِنْهَا قَبْضَةً ، فَقَالَ : أَيْ بِلالُ ، ابْتَغِنَا بِهَا طِيبًا ، وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يُجَهِّزُوهَا فَجَعَلَ لَهَا سَرِيرًا مُشْرَطًا بِالشَّرْطِ وَوِسَادَةً مِنْ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ ، وَقَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ : إِِذَا أَتَتْكَ فَلا تُحْدِثْ شَيْئًا ، حَتَّى آتِيَكَ ، فَجَاءَتْ مَعَ أُمِّ أَيْمَنَ حَتَّى قَعَدَتْ فِي جَانِبِ الْبَيْتِ وَأَنَا فِي جَانِبٍ ، وَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : هَا هُنَا أَخِي ؟ قَالَتْ أُمُّ أَيْمَنَ : أَخُوكَ وَقَدْ زَوَّجْتَهُ ابْنَتَكَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، وَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْبَيْتَ ، فَقَالَ لِفَاطِمَةَ : إِِيتِينِي بِمَاءٍ ، فَقَامَتْ إِِلَى قَعْبٍ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَأَتَتْ فِيهِ بِمَاءٍ ، فَأَخَذَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَجَّ فِيهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهَا : تَقَدَّمِي ، فَتَقَدَّمَتْ ، فَنَضَحَ بَيْنَ ثَدْيَيْهَا وَعَلَى رَأْسِهَا ، وَقَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهَا : أَدْبِرِي ، فَأَدْبَرَتْ ، فَصَبَّ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهَا ، وَقَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِِيتُونِي بِمَاءٍ ، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ : فَعَلِمْتُ الَّذِي يُرِيدُ ، فَقُمْتُ فَمَلأْتُ الْقَعْبَ مَاءً وَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهِ ، فَأَخَذَهُ وَمَجَّ فِيهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي : تَقَدَّمْ ، فَصَبَّ عَلَى رَأْسِي وَبَيْنَ ثَدْيَيَّ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِِنِّي أُعِيذُهُ بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَدْبِرْ ، فَأَدْبَرْتُ ، فَصَبَّهُ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيَّ ، وَقَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِِنِّي أُعِيذُهُ بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ : ادْخُلْ بِأَهْلِكَ ، بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالْبَرَكَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), sat before him, and said: O Messenger of Allah! You are aware of my goodwill and my early acceptance of Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Then what happened? He said: Marry me to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I am ruined, I have been destroyed. He asked: How is that? He said: I proposed marriage to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned away from me. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Stay where you are, I will go to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and make the same request as you did. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), sat before him, and said: O Messenger of Allah! You are aware of my goodwill and my early acceptance of Islam, and I have such and such qualities. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Then what happened? He said: Marry me to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) returned to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and informed him that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is waiting for Allah’s command regarding Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). Come with us to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so that he may make the same request as we did. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Both of them came to me while I was working among my small date palm trees. They said: We have come to you with a marriage proposal from your cousin (i.e., the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: They made me aware of the situation, so I stood up, dragging my cloak, until I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and sat before him. I said: O Messenger of Allah! You are aware of my early acceptance of Islam and my goodwill, and I have such and such qualities. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Then what happened? I said: Marry me to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Do you have anything (to give as mahr)? I said: I have my horse and my camel. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: As for your horse, it is necessary for you to keep it, but as for your camel, you may sell it. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So I sold it for 480 (dirhams or dinars), brought it, and placed it in the lap of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took it in his hand and said: O Bilal, buy perfume for us with this. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed that the dowry for Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) be prepared. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had a bed made for her and a pillow made of leather stuffed with palm fibers. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): When she comes to you, do not speak to her before I come. Then Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came (to Sayyiduna Ali’s house) with Sayyidah Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her), until she sat in one corner of the house and I sat in another corner. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived and asked: Where is my brother? Sayyidah Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) said: He is your brother, and you have married your daughter to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Yes. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered the house and said to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her): Bring me water. So she went to the water vessel in the house and brought water. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took it, rinsed his mouth with it once, then said to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her): Come forward! She came forward, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sprinkled that water on her chest and head and said (i.e., made this supplication): “O Allah! I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from the accursed devil.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her): Turn to the other side. She turned to the other side, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sprinkled water between her shoulders and said (i.e., supplicated): “O Allah! I seek Your protection for her and her offspring from the accursed devil.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Bring me water. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I did as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wished; I got up, filled the vessel with water, and brought it to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) rinsed his mouth with it, then said to me: Come forward. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sprinkled water on my head and chest and supplicated: “O Allah! I seek Your protection for him and his offspring from the accursed devil.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Turn to the other side. I turned to the other side, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sprinkled water between my shoulders and supplicated: “O Allah! I seek Your protection for him and his offspring from the accursed devil.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): “Live with your wife in the name of Allah, seeking blessing and with blessing.”
