أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَشْجَعِيُّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ الثَّقَفِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ الأَنْمَارِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ : يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نَاجَيْتُمُ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَةً سورة المجادلة آية 12 ، قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا تَرَى دِينَارًا ؟ قُلْتُ : لا يُطِيقُونَهُ ، قَالَ : فَكَمْ ؟ قُلْتُ : شَعِيرَةٌ ، قَالَ : إِِنَّكَ لَزَهِيدٌ ، فَنَزَلَتْ أَأَشْفَقْتُمْ أَنْ تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نَجْوَاكُمْ صَدَقَات سورة المجادلة آية 13 ٍ الآيَةَ ، قَالَ : " فَبِي خَفَّفَ اللَّهُ عَنْ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ " .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When this verse was revealed: "O you who believe! When you consult the Messenger in private, offer something in charity before your private consultation." What was meant was to offer charity. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked me: What do you think, should this charity be one dinar? I said: People will not be able to afford that. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Then how much should it be? I said: Some barley. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You are making it too little. Then this verse was revealed: "Are you afraid of offering charity before your private consultation?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So, because of me, Allah made it easier for this Ummah.
