أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ السَّامِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ : " لأَدْفَعَنَّ الْيَوْمَ اللِّوَاءَ إِِلَى رَجُلٍ يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ يَفْتَحُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ عُمَرُ : فَمَا أَحْبَبْتُ الإِِمَارَةَ إِِلا يَوْمَئِذٍ ، فَتَطَاوَلْتُ لَهَا ، فَقَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ : قُمْ ، فَدَفَعَ اللِّوَاءَ إِِلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ : اذْهَبْ وَلا تَلْتَفِتْ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ ، فَمَشَى هُنَيْهَةً ، ثُمَّ قَامَ وَلَمْ يَلْتَفِتْ لِلْعَزْمَةِ ، فَقَالَ : عَلَى مَا أُقَاتِلُ النَّاسَ ؟ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : قَاتِلْهُمْ حَتَّى يَشْهَدُوا أَنْ لا إِِلَهَ إِِلا اللَّهُ ، فَإِِذَا قَالُوهَا فَقَدْ عَصَمُوا دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إِِلا بِحَقِّهَا ، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Khaybar, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Today I will give the flag to a person who loves Allah and His Messenger, and through him Allah will grant victory." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: "Only on that day did I desire to become a leader; I waited for it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "You stand up," then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entrusted the flag to him and said: "Go, and do not turn here and there until Allah grants you victory." He had gone only a little distance, then stopped; he did not look here and there and asked: "On what basis should I fight the people?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fight them until they testify that there is no deity except Allah. When they say this statement, they will secure their lives and their wealth, except for the right due from them; their reckoning is with Allah."
