أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَصْرٍ التَّمَّارُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا حُصِرَ عُثْمَانُ وَأُحِيطَ بِدَارِهِ أَشْرَفَ عَلَى النَّاسِ ، فَقَالَ : نَشَدْتُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ ، هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ انْتَفَضَ بِنَا حِرَاءُ ، قَالَ : " اثْبُتْ حِرَاءُ ، فَمَا عَلَيْكَ إِِلا نَبِيٌّ أَوْ صِدِّيقٌ أَوْ شَهِيدٌ " ؟ قَالُوا : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : نَشَدْتُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ ، هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ فِي غَزْوَةِ الْعُسْرَةِ : " مَنْ يُنْفِقْ نَفَقَةً مُتَقَبَّلَةً ؟ وَالنَّاسُ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُعْسِرُونَ مُجْهَدُونَ ، فَجَهَّزْتُ ثُلُثَ ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ مِنْ مَالِي " ، فَقَالُوا : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : نَشَدْتُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ ، هَلْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ " رُومَةَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُشْرَبُ مِنْهَا إِِلا بِثَمَنٍ ، فَابْتَعْتُهَا بِمَالِي ، فَجَعَلْتُهَا لِلْغَنِيِّ وَالْفَقِيرِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ " ؟ فَقَالُوا : اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ ، فِي أَشْيَاءَ عَدَّدَهَا .
Abu Abdur Rahman Salmi narrates: When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was besieged and his house was surrounded, he looked towards the people and said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with us on Hira (mountain) and it began to shake, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Hira! Remain still, for upon you is a Prophet, a Siddiq, and a martyr. The people said: By Allah, yes. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who is the person who will spend (in the way of Allah) and it will be accepted? In those days, people were in hardship, so I prepared one third of the army’s equipment from my wealth. The people said: By Allah, it is so. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I ask you by Allah, do you know that water from the well named Rumah could only be taken by paying its price? I bought it from my wealth and dedicated it for every rich and poor person and for travelers (as a waqf). The people said: By Allah, it is so. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned some more things.
