أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ بِخَبَرٍ غَرِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ، عَنْ أبيه ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : دَخَلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ نِسْوَةٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يَسَلْنَهُ وَيَسْتَكْثِرْنَهُ رَافِعَاتٍ أَصْوَاتَهُنَّ ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعْنَ صَوْتَ عُمَرَ انْقَمَعْنَ وَسَكَتْنَ ، فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : يَا عُدَيَّاتِ أَنْفُسِهِنَّ ، تَهَبْنَنِي وَلا تَهَبْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا عُمَرُ ، مَا لَقِيَكَ الشَّيْطَانُ سَالِكًا فَجًّا ، إِِلا سَلَكَ فَجًّا غَيْرَ فَجِّكَ " .
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at a time when some women of the Quraysh were present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), asking him for something and demanding more. Their voices were raised. When these women heard the voice of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), they became subdued and fell silent. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O enemies of your own souls! You fear me but do not fear the Messenger of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umar! If Satan were to encounter you on a path, he would leave that path and take another.
