أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى زَحْمَوَيْهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ الْجُمُعَةَ ، وَقَدِمَتْ عِيرٌ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَابْتَدَرَهَا أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ مَعَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِِلا اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَوْ تَتَابَعْتُمْ حَتَّى لا يَبْقَى مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ ، لَسَالَ لَكُمُ الْوَادِي نَارًا " ، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ : وَإِذَا رَأَوْا تِجَارَةً أَوْ لَهْوًا انْفَضُّوا إِلَيْهَا وَتَرَكُوكَ قَائِمًا سورة الجمعة آية 11 ، وَقَالَ فِي الاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ الَّذِينَ ثَبَتُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the Friday sermon when a caravan (of goods and merchandise) arrived in Madinah. The companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) hurried towards it, until only twelve people remained with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if you had all gone after them so that none of you remained, this entire valley would have been filled with fire for you." (The narrator says:) Regarding this, the following verse was revealed: "And when they saw a transaction or a diversion, they rushed to it and left you standing (delivering the sermon)."
The narrator said: Among those twelve people who remained with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
