Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the illness of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) became severe, Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to call him for prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) is a soft-hearted man; when he stands in your place, he will not be able to make the people hear (the recitation). If you command Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), (that would be more appropriate). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. I said to Hafsa: You request the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this. She did so and said: O Messenger of Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) is a soft-hearted man; when he stands in your place, (he will not be able to make the people hear the recitation). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You women are like the women who were with Yusuf (Joseph) (peace be upon him). Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) started the prayer, the Prophet (peace be upon him) felt some improvement in his condition. He stood up supported by two men, his feet dragging on the ground, until he entered the mosque. When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) heard the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) movement, he began to step back, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) gestured to him to remain as he was. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then sat to the left of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the people in prayer while sitting, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was standing. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was following the prayer of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the people were following the prayer of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The correct wording is "Sahibat Yusuf" (the women who were with Yusuf), but the narrator has reported the word as "Sahibat."
